Capital Cases Charitable Trust
The Capital Cases Charitable Trust (CCCT) was registered as a charity in November 1998.
The CCCT originally focused on providing pro-bono representation to prisoners sentenced to death in the Caribbean in their appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. The CCCT has expanded its work to provide pro-bono representation to prisoners sentenced to a non-capital term and in cases in which an important point of principle arises. This includes petitions to the Governor-General for mercy in cases where new evidence has arisen.
This site is intended as a point of reference for solicitors and barristers (and others working with them) who are willing to provide pro bono representation to prisoners in the Caribbean and elsewhere. As well as information about the Trust and its achievements, practitioners will find guidance on recent case law, links to the relevant statutes and examples of work carried out on previous cases. Current issues are also flagged up on this site.
